It's About Time By Island Rick
The Champion 46539 generator with remote is awesome. Finally somebody has designed an intelligent home owner type generator. You must get the remote starter to also get the RCM, the little brain that sets the choke, has a time delay for loads at start up, and an advanced load shut off when shutting off.
The hefty battery that came with it is recharged when running, and the remote uses a RF signal that has very good range and is not line of sight. It easily works from in the house.
The sound level is relatively quiet, and the engine runs smooth and seems to be reaonably fuel efficient.
I dare say look out Honda and other competitors, the day of quality assembly work from China seems to be here.
This tool is new to me and time will be the ultimate judge of quality. Did I mention the built in Hour / Hertz / Voltage meter?Worked great during Hurricane Sandy By Matthew J. Lear
I purchased this generator right before Hurricane Sandy hit NJ. I ran the generator every day for several hours at a time over the course of 8 days and never had any problems whatsoever with the generator.
The wheels, front feet, and handle come in a parts box (included) that you self-install on the generator. The directions are very straightforward and installation was very simple.
It includes a funnel and oil for filling the machine (I believe 10w-30). You must install oil prior to using it! (Some people might forget which will ruin the generator!)
During the 8 days, I was running a Samsung French Door fridge, a Flotech Sump Pump, my furnace blower, and some lights / phone chargers with no significant voltage drop - steadily around 120, and never less than 119 volts.
I would run the generator for 2-4 hours at a time, and it seemed to be very efficient on fuel given the load I mentioned above.
Some notes that I think others may find important:
1. The 'regular' 120v outlets on this unit will provide 20amp and up to 2900 Watts, NOT 3500. In order to get the 3500, you need to use either the RV outlet, or the 30Amp 125v left-most outlet.
2. The noise level was acceptable. You did have to raise your voice if standing next to the generator, but it was not as loud as other generators I heard during the storm.
3. There is no 240v outlet on this generator - not that one was promised, but in case you were looking for that (220/240), this isn't the generator for you.
4. The weight of the generator was manageable. The wheels worked great. The handle placement is a little odd, and when dragging the generator behind me, I had to take short steps otherwise I would clip my trailing foot with the generator.
5. The remote start is a really nice feature. Also, and this is important - when you utilize the remote start, the generator will crank up and wait for the engine to stabilize before supplying power to the outlets. It's a nice feature because you can leave your extension cords plugged in, and when the engine is stable, power will automatically be supplied to your appliances. Beats having to go outside when it is cold or dark and fumble around with plugs.
6. Probably my only con is that the gas tank is a bit of a pain to fill up. It seems to only handle a small flow of gasoline into the tank at a time. If you try and put too much in too fast, it results in a spill.
All in all, the generator performed great, and I couldn't be happier with the purchase.WOW 150 lbs shipped free and in about 3 days By Mellow
Purchased this Champion 4000 watt electric start generator from Amazon arrived in about 3 days free shipping and no sales tax. Took it with us on a camping trip a few days later, worked like a champ. The remote on and off is wonderful. With our old generator, we would have to go out and turn it off (usually at night) after watching a movie) or just let it run till it ran out of gas. We got pretty good at estimating how much gas a 2 hour movie would take! With the New Champion's wireless remote start, even 50 feet away, sitting in the back of the truck, all I had to do was press the button and it went off or on! All from inside the travel trailer! Didn't even have to get out of bed. This one replaced our tired little 1000 watt Coleman. I really didn't notice it being any louder. It seems to have a good muffler and enough power to run everything in the T/T, microwave, TV, coffee maker, and the furnace all the things you need when out in the wild, "roughing" it! With the highs at 50 degrees, didn't try the A/C. All this while charging up the boat batteries for the next day's fishing. I guess you can say I'm pretty pleased!!!
