A 992cc Generac OHVI® Engine delivers reliable performance with its long-life design. View larger . |
Standby generators power up automatically within seconds of a power outage to keep your family safe and comfortable. View larger . |
When the power goes out, this generator eliminates the trouble of dealing with a fuse box in a dark basement or going outside in a storm to start a portable generator. After all LP or natural gas and electrical connections are completed, the Generac 5872 is ready to run 24/7 and requires absolutely no manual operation, no fueling, and no extension cords. The generator responds within seconds of power outages, so inconveniences like heat or air conditioning loss and burst pipes or spoiled food are quickly avoided. Initial setup is easy. The generator arrives pre-wired and equipped with the necessary installation gear: a 14-circuit transfer switch (NEMA 1, indoor-rated only), pre-wired conduits, an outdoor connection box, a flexible fuel line pigtail, and a composite mounting pad. (Additional items and tools may be needed to complete the installation to meet local codes. Consult a licensed professional for further details.) The unit can be programmed to perform a weekly exercise at the time of your choice, so it will be ready for continuous and reliable operation on a moment's notice. For your convenience, it also offers a two-line LCD digital controller, an at a glance indicator light and system status LED, plus an easy-to-access external main circuit breaker. Superior Technology for Secure Output, Quiet Operation, and Durability
Thanks to Generac's exclusive True Power Technology, this generator provides clean, continuous power, so sensitive electronics and microchip appliances like laptops and HVAC equipment can be operated without the worry that unexpected power surges bring. The ultra-quiet design means that noise levels during self-tests are 1/3 quieter than portable generators, so your daily routine is unaffected. The generator's corrosion-resistant, galvanized steel enclosure is protected by Generac's proprietary RhinoCoat system--a unique process that binds the paint to the metal surface for a long-lasting, durable finish. This allows the generator to sit outdoors and withstand harsh weather conditions without developing an unsightly appearance. Like all Generac generators, this model is UL (Underwriters Laboratories) listed for safety. Rugged, Worry-Free Design
The generator features the 992cc Generac OHVI® Engine, an exclusive air-cooled generator engine with a high-performance design that can accommodate large electrical loads. The engine optimizes power to respond swiftly to changing conditions. To add to your peace of mind, the engine requires routine maintenance only once every two years, or after 200 hours of use. This Generac generator meets CARB requirements. It requires a Group 26R 12-volt minimum 525 CCA battery (sold separately). What's in the Box

disappointing By NHBill
After 4 years of light use, less than 72 hours, mostly exercise cycles, my generac blew a rotor during a power outage. I approached the manufacturer with a warranty claim at the advise of my electrician, but since the unit had been sold with only a two year warranty, the best they would do was sell me the part for $585, perhaps their cost, and leave me to foot the bill for the $300 to install and pay the electrician for troubleshooting. Failure of the rotor with so little use was due to either faulty engineering or manufacturing, there is no scheduled maintenance for that part, so I pressed the manufacturer for a more favorable resolution but they wouldn't budge. By the way, a bit of internet research indicated to me that rotor failures are a known issue with this generator.
I am disappointed with the reliability of this product and found it to be a poor investment. Four years of occasional use cost me about $4,600 including installation. I was genuinely shocked at generac's lack of concern for my problem and their lack of acceptance of responsibility to make it right. I am in the process of getting a much better generator from a manufacturer I have more confidence in.No support after the sale By Christopher Richardson
We installed this generator last week and it seems to be a decent generator. We had problems in the transfer switch in that when the power went down, the generator would automatically start up but the transfer switch would not transfer it to the dedicated circuits. This is most likely not a big deal to troubleshoot but Generac patently refuses do do any troubleshooting or phone support at all. I was on hold for 20 minutes (due to being disconnected twice) and when I finally talked with a live human, he told me to call a local Generac repair person who charges $120.00/hr. I won't go as far as to say they were rude, but they were very clear that after the sale, I was on my own. I think that they probably make a decent product but for this kind of money I would expect at least a basic level of customer service. I probably won't buy another Generac product for this reason.Stay Away By blulek
Bought a 14kw and went 2 1/2 years without a power outage. The first outage saw my generator die after 10 hours of operation. Tech came out and said it was a bad rotor, brushes and voltage regulator board. He said he was surprised none of the electronics in my house was damage but thought everything must have died at the same time so my electronics did not see the voltage spike. Replaced the bad components for a little over $1100! Almost exactly a year later and without any known power outages in between, we lost power and this time the generator only lasted 5 hours and died. Tech came out and thankfully it was just the brushes so the repair only cost me $300. Asked him why the generator kept having the same issues and he said "Its a Generac, they are known for rotor issues" Wish I knew that before I invested $3800 in a generator. So fast forward two years and the generator had run fine during 3-4 short term power losses until last Saturday. The generator only lasted 10 minutes this time. Tech's coming out tomorrow but I know its at least the brushes as the symptoms are the same as the last 2 times it died. There is no worse feeling then spending $3800 on a generator and wondering if and when it will die and leave us without power. It would be better not to have one at all so at least when you lost power, you lost power. Customer service is non-existent. This is not the dependability of a generator that has only ran less then 25 hours under load!! My best advise is to stay away from Generac because even if they claim the newer generators do not have the rotor issue, they have left hundreds if not thousands of people with an empty wallet and a useless generator!!!! The Best-Selling Generac Guardian Series 5872 14,000 Watt Air-Cooled Liquid Propane/Natural Gas Powered Standby Generator With Transfer Switch (CARB Compliant) then to sell out very fast, if this is a must have product, be sure to order now to avoid disappointment.
