It is as if GE created the original (OEM) roller wheel axles to fail. I am guessing that this new version that snaps into place much better than the original is a redesign and is HOPEFULLY included on the bottom racks of new GE diswashers. The way these snap on to the bottom dishwasher rack is 100x better than the original that had a simple little clip that barely held on to the rack.
With the old system, I often found a wheel off the rack and down near the heating element. The plastic on the old models got heat fatigue and began to get brittle (and some of them cracked and broke). When I replaced them with these (on a 5 year old dishwasher), the change was immediate. They make the bottom rack glide like it is supposed to and keep the wheels locked into place with little chance of coming undone.
If you are finding your GE Dishwasher bottom rack wheels coming unhinged because of the flimsy original part, these are a great replacement. Time will only tell how the plastic endures the heat.
For now, the dishwasher rack movement is back to feeling new again and stays on the rail nice and smoothly. This simple change-out is one of those little things that make a big difference.Better than the orignal part By J. Hasselkus
One of the wheels on my GE dishwasher's bottom rack kept falling off because the clip on the wheel's axle wouldn't hold it on to the rack right. Our GE dishwasher is now over seven years old, and for the past several months one or more of the wheels (not always the same one) would pop off just about every time the lower rack was rolled out of the dishwasher. I did a simple search here on Amazon and found these. I decided to replace all eight axles at once instead of doing it piecemeal over the next few years as each of the originals failed.
The old axles can be popped out by pressing firmly on the hub, and the new ones pop in very easily. I had all eight installed in less than ten minutes, and the bottom rack now rolls in and out more smoothly than ever.
